I have been an educator and educational technologies consultant for over 20 years, where teaching never feels like work to me. My love for teaching and learning extends to the students, parents, and teachers I work with every day. I have the honour of making a positive difference in others’ lives, and it’s a responsibility I feel blessed to have.
I have completed my Master of Education degree with a specialization in Literacy Education. I have also authored IT teacher and student literacy, science, and math resource materials for a leading Canadian educational publisher. I acquired my Bachelor of Education Degree and Ontario Teaching Certificate from the University of Toronto. My education and experience have taught me that an inquiry-based learning approach, universal design, critical literacy, and differentiated instruction inform our practice in our classrooms, whether with adults or children.
As an Educational Technologies Consultant, I have travelled all over Canada teaching students, parents, teachers, administrators, and specialists how to integrate and utilize educational technology into curricula to yield greater student success. Training is provided on a variety of software and hardware, including Google Apps for Education as a Google Certified Trainer as well as the Microsoft Office 365 platform as a Microsoft Innovator Educator Trainer. At the post-secondary level, I have taught at York University with the Faculty of Education. As an International Instructional Leader, I was responsible for coordinating, preparing, and delivering course curriculum pertaining to educational technologies, special education, primary education, and inclusive education for international educators.
Presently I work as an Educational Technologies Consultant in the YRDSB and an elementary teacher with the SCDSB. I work in several schools in Ontario teaching students (with diverse needs from grades K to 12), teachers, and parents how to effectively use their computers, tablets, and other mobile devices as student-centred and collaborative learning tools in their classrooms. Incorporating these learning tools helps to provide and address equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in our classrooms. These positions continue to enhance my teaching by becoming more attuned and adept at meeting the needs and learning styles of my students.
I have a genuine desire to be at the cutting edge of education today. My compassion, commitment, energy, and ability to contribute is an asset I bring to the students and clients I work with.
As a Google Certified Trainer, I empower others to learn and use Google for Education and G Suite products to make their classrooms and workspaces more efficient, improve student/employee outcomes, and foster leadership skills.
As an assistive technologies trainer, I provide training in assistive technology (software and hardware) to those working with as well as those with learning difficulties (including dyslexia, AD(H)D, Asperger’s, autism, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia) in both education and the workplace. Following an initial consultation with the end-user, training will be delivered according to their individual needs so as to fully benefit from the technology provided.
As a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Trainer, I provide training to educators on the integration of Microsoft technologies in the classroom. The goal is to provide my clients with training and resources that support student-centred learning based on authentic problems and projects while aligning to 21st Century Skills and ministry curricula.
